Who is Terry?

Terry & rescued kitty, Truffles!
Terry grew up in Wilmington, NC on a horse farm with her 3 sisters, their wonderful parents, and numerous animals. Having had all kinds of critters from chinchillas, dogs, cats, horses, goats, geese, etc., Terry learned at an early age how to care for many different species of animals, and she also began riding and showing horses at a very early age. With the encouragement and support of their parents, Terry’s 3 sisters all followed suit with their love of animals and horse training and showing.
Terry went to New Hanover High School and went on to graduate cum laude from GA State University with a degree in accounting. After obtaining her CPA, Terry worked several years in public accounting, while maintaining a rigorous schedule in horse competitions throughout the Carolinas. Terry and her husband, Mike, moved several times throughout their 25 years of marriage to follow his career in Human Resources and Labor law.
Happily, Terry and Mike are back in the Charlotte area, and Terry has had the wonderful opportunity to open a kitty lodge which is strictly for the rescue and rehabilitation work for feral cats. Terry’s love of animals has always had a strong place in her heart, but rescuing cats has always been a great passion, ever since she was little. For some reason, Terry has been given the gift of handling untamed cats, the ones that desperately need human trust and rescue.
Handling feral cats can be a dangerous task, and Terry has had a lot of experience trapping, transferring, caring for and taming feral cats. Terry has had her complete series of rabies shots and she is well aware of the dangers that exist. Safety is always number one concern for both Terry and the cats.
Despite the hard work and very long hours, the rewards definitely outweight the struggles, That first “purr” you hear from a kitty that has been trying to survive in the wild with no chance of long-term survival, is like music to your ears!!! Then, beyond all expectations, when that feral cat becomes tame enough to be held close to you and petted, and you know it is ready to move on to a permanent home, that is a feeling of tears…..happy tears!
Mike and Terry enjoy their home with their 4 rescued dogs and 8 rescued cats! They both like saying, “please don’t buy, while shelter pets die!”
Terry now operates the FURR kitty rescue lodge on a full-time basis, and traps, tames, and transports cats for spay/neuter and vet visits. Terry also does a lot of feline education and offers help to many people who just need to talk about their cat issues or that need a little advice!

Again, Terry, thanks for finding Emmitt a home and so quickly. We miss him, but know he is with a loving and caring family.

Hello Terry! The wonderful and only person that helped me.
A few days before the big snow storm some joggers knocked on our door and asked my husband to help a kitty that was down in a storm drain near our home. My husband went out and even climbed down into the over 10 ft. drain but could not get the cat. When I came home later in the afternoon I heard it crying, so we tried again. We could not help him and his cries were so heartbreaking. I called animal control, and because we live in Matthews but are considered Mecklenburg county, they kept bouncing me back and forth. In the meantime we had all of that snow and wet weather, and it was really cold. I felt terrible and was so sad watching all of this cold water bombard this kitty. We kept feeding it. Finally after over 9 days animal control came out, and I was told the cat probably lived in the drain. Wait 3 days, don’t feed it and see if it comes out. He told me it could get out if it wanted to, but I could not understand that if it could why would it stay in there during all of the cold. wet, water that was coming in? I listened but was so upset, and I planned to just do what he asked. The next morning Terry called me from an email I had sent to another lady in a desperate attempt to get help for the kitty. Now the kitty had been in the drain for at least 10 days.
Terry came out within hours and within minutes had the kitty out. And by the way, he was a neutered male….so no he was not living in the drain. He was so sweet, and a kind lady from craigslist offered to foster. And she says he is the sweetest kitty. Thank you so much Terry, I am so touched by your commitment and kindness. I will tell everyone to donate to this wonderful cause. You are an angel!
